Hey man, you said you used the ford sending unit on your car. I have determined I have the ford autometer fuel guage. When I go to the parts store, what year make and model ford sending unit should I ask for? Will I need to do any special fabrication to get it to fit in my gas tank?(I have a 71 240Z) Is there an access panel to get to the sending unit or do I have to pull the tank? Thanks for your tips.

Theres a access bung on the back of the tank, trace your wires where they go and there it is, use a screw driver and a hammer to GENTLY turn the retaining ring, it work kinda like the strut caps, the metal slides under the tank mounted metal, tap,tap,tap......remember to drain your gas, and dont be smoking....or boom....no more fuel problems. dont mis place the o-ring, and when your putting it back together again, dont tap it in to tight, the piece could seperate from the tank, another problem you will have.

The job is a real gas.............

JcWhitney sells universal ones for the Ford too. Pretty good price also. Check them out.
no.. I used the stock sending unit and a autometer gauge for ford vehicles. The full and empty ohm readings are close to the specs for the ford style gauge. It is not 100% accurate but they are real close
Oh I guess we had a misunderstanding then. I just ordered a new sending unit from Courtesy Nissan. Good thing I didn't try to install a ford sending unit. I swear I thought that is what you said you did. :) I am going to change that and go from there. Thanks.
sorry for the misunderstanding I meant ford style gauge
