I recently bought an '81 280ZX. Two owners ago, the license plate was moved and a red and black plastic "280ZX" panel was put in it's place. He then made an L-shaped mounting bracket which is screwed behind the bumper and added two mini trailer lights to accomodate the license plate. The lights no longer work and I can't find replacements, so I'd rather fix it with an original mounting bracket/setup. Did Datsun originally make cars with this rear panel and therefore, somewhere there a mounting unit that is specifically for this purpose?

RE: Nope, No Weird Light Panels.

At least, not from the factory. The rear light panels, although often a dealer installed option, are aftermarket accessories.

The original license plate mounting system on U.S. model 280ZX's is two tapped holes for the holes at the top of the license plate and two welded steel tabs to hold the bottom edge of the plate. Many amateur customizers broke off the tabs to make their flashy accessory center light panels fit closer to the cars' bodies.
