Sorry Guys for the vague description on my earlier post about my flooded Z. Here's the deal, I have a 1982 280zx non turbo, it had a bad starter and I kept trying to start it for almost an hour till I finally gave up. The next day I replaced the starter and tried to crank it up and it wouldn't kick over. I could smell the odor of gas which led me to believe it was flooded. Also I might add that I did get a wire crossed when I was replacing the starter and happened to see some white smoke coming from the starter but ended up correcting the problem. The starter works fine now, like I said it starts with no problem but it won't kick over. Would or could my starter have screwed up something or would the previous day trying to start it with a bad starter flooded my system? Responses that I have gotten so far was to either clean my plugs or better yet replace them and check if there is an ignition problem. I haven't done nothing as of yet but plan on it today. Oh by the way how would I check my plugs for spark without hurting myself, lol.... Thanks in advance everypone......

Put a set of new plugs in it.

To check a plug I usually put the new plug in the ignition wire and hold the threaded part of the plug on the block.

Have someone that understands CPR turn the ignition on to "start" and watch for a spark to jump from the electrode.

Electricity will take the path of least resistance so it will jump from the electrode to ground rather than throught the rubber S/P boot that you are holding in your hand.

Wear good gloves and do not stand in water.

If you have a Pacemaker get someone else to hold the plug. LOL

to check for spark, just unscrew all of them and touch each one to the block, while holding the rubber plug cap. have somebody cranking the engine while you check each one. usually if a car is flooded, it will start up fine after a day or so.
