You can use almost any type of car seat--as long as you build the box(according to my Z specialist) --Custom bracket/rails.
I was looking at used Recaros and even some awesome Mazda rx-7 seats---but they wanted $900 for the pair! So it would have been cheaper for new aftermarket seats.
One can get aftermarket seats from Corbeau--about $300 a piece.

Obviously not every junkyard has Miata's there.
Here in the SEattle area--there is a place called Fitz Auto parts that dismantles and put all the different seats in a showroom! They have a lot of rebuildable wrecks for sale too.
Unless one can get the seats at a ridiculously low price--definitely consider the cost.
I ended up reupholstering the seats in my 260.
