Just installed my headers on my 81 280zx -non turbo. No problem doing it.
But when I went to re-install the heat shield it woudnt fit.
Is it ok to leave off? Or has anyone modified it to fit? HELP!!!

Put it on, get creative.

Bend it to make it fit or make a new one out of some sheet metal. It's there to keep the intake parts from getting too hot...

If you want to do away with the shield and have lots of cash - get your header ceramic coated. This will drastically cut down on the heat it throws into the engine compartment.
