Hi dowst-----------------Yeah, awhile ago I witnessed a demonstration of an aluminum alloy welding rod. The salesman that gave the demo used a small propane torch to weld a smooth professional looking bead on a Coke can. I was impressed to say the least. I haven't tried it out yet, but you can bet I will.

you can braze with aluminum or bronze rods(with small blow torch) It doesn't make good weld because the surface metal that you are welding to doesn't melt enough. Basically it's sordering. What are you trying to weld?

Yea it works but remember alum ie. potmetal too much heat and it will cave in on ya. Alum has to be clean I mean really clean sand it, wire brush it Stainless steel brush only, and clean it with a non film solvent like acetone or xylene. Then ya can weld it via torch of Tig. I think I'd stay away from Mig since ya migh have a hard time controling the heat and wire speed unless ya got some scrap to set your machine up on. Trust me I teach welding for a Iron Workers Local in Socal
I think I know what I'm talking about.
If ya don't have much experiance you might want to take it in to somebody to fix or you may be buying an new piece. Remeber easier to weld heavy metal than light gauge more heat sink materal.
Good Luck
