Hi,

I'm getting desperate for some good advice as to what to try. Can anyone help with info and possibilities???

1986 300ZX (non turbo)

Bought car used. A few months later, random gross loss of power with smooth surging from idle to 1500 rpm with foot held down on accelerator in about 3-second periods

Starts and idles fine. When it heats up the loss of power and surging starts opon random occaision. (Strands wife on interstate.) In gear or in park, same surging when accelerator pushed down.

Have taken the car to dealer plus 2 independent local Z-car factory trained "experts". Now have $2,500 invested in repairs with no progress.

Have replaced the temp sensor, the speedometer sending unit, air control unit, plugs and new ignition wires, checked the fuel pump (3 times), replaced the distributor (2 times). (The computer code kept saying distributor, so we replaced it again.) No codes presently on computer.

Anyone with an experince like this? Suggestions??

Thanks VERY much.

Could be a bad MAF or ECU.

If you get really desperate it's not hard to find used ECU's on z31.com. You could always purchase one, try it, if it doesn't work then sell it back. People are always purchasing and selling them and these weird problems always seem to tie back to the computer controlled components in the car.
