I have just finished rebuilding the motor out of my 1981 280zx N/A but when I go to start the car it just backfires and refuses to start it has new plugs, wires, and cap. Some things i have verified are not the issue: Oil pump is in the correct position when engines at tdc and the firing order is correct. Not sure if this is related to my problem but the magnetic disk inside the distributor is broken and in multiple pieces (I'm planning to replace it with a rebuilt distributor).

That distributor should work with a broken magnet disk, as long as it is all there and in place.
Make sure the rotor is pointing at #1 plug wire at #1 compression TDC and not 180 degrees out.
the magnet disc was on the walls of the distributor so im going to pull one out of a junkyard car. i fixed some crossed fuel injector wire connectors and swapped a distributor from my other z and the car ran im confused if the distributor just went bad
