I have an L28E in an extremely wretched 82 810/Maxima which I plan to transplant into an MG B (don't ask, it's not my MG and the price is right). The issue I am concerned about is this: the new owner wants the L carburated, so, do I have to find a vacuum advance distributor from a 2.4 or 2.6 or will the one on the motor now still work? I'm not exactly sure the year of this motor. The best I can do is 79 to 83. I doubt this is the only problem I will run into, but for the moment...
TIA for any assistance!
Johnny
It will work, just get everything, the ignition modules etc.
there are many people who put in the ZX distru\ibutor into the early L24 with carbs just to get away from the points. I have that one installed and works very good
Thank you for the responses! I'm glad to know the dist. won't have to be swapped out. As far as the carbs being adapted to this, well, that's a bit more complicated... You see, the SU's will create a hood (or is that bonnet on an MG??) clearance problem. I believe by cutting out the shelf for the heater core at the rear of the engine bay the front of the motor will clear, however, the front carb would not (as in the case of the MG C with the 3 litre Austin Healy L6) so, the solution? The buyer has decided that 2 sets of triple 42mm Mikunis will solve his problems. This is simply trading off misery, I understand, but the job is being done at a machine shop, so fabricating an intake should not be too problematic. If anyone would be interested in knowing how that works out, I can update the progress as it goes.

There is an intake manifold available for L-series engines that will mount three Mikuni PHH carburetors, I'm not sure if it would create a clearance problem, though, as I'm not familiar with these British cars. Probably cheaper than having a custom intake fabricated.
They are on ebay from time to time and are made by Cannon, Lynx, and others.
A google search would probably locate some vendors.
Good luck with the project.
fabbing an intake or hood will be child's play compared to putting an L28 into an MG in the first place. I owned a '68 MGB so I can sympathize with wanting to toss the original engine (and electronics), but from my memory, I would say the L28 swap is not even possible. There just isn't enough room (this is assuming you want to keep room for a radiator and driver.) But I've been wrong before. Hope you keep us posted with pics.
I have reservations about this myself, but winter in Wisconsin is a cold, miserable, drawn out affair so what the h#ll? Fitment should not be a big issue. The MG C was the same body as the B and had a Healy 6 (same power plant as the 100/6 and 3000) and it fit. That was a pushrod motor though, so the head on the Datsun motor is significantly taller. The motor can be moved back about 6 inches without encroaching on the driver. The motor needs to be moved back to keep the weight distribution as close to original as possible, but also to prevent interfering with the steering rack which is about level with the center of the crankshaft pulley. Hard to explain without pictures, I guess.
I will make a point to take pictures along the way. I really hadn't expected this kind of response. Thank you all for being so helpful and understanding.

I would be looking at a simple SR20DE for this application, it's a much better choice than any Lseries N/A motor (unless your talking about a stroker).
If you want more torque get yourself a KA24DE, this would suply you with a similar torque curve to an l28.
