Just bought a 74 Datsun 260Z. 95% rust free, original engine with 160psi compression. Good body and frame. Got it for $1300. My question is, I know they made the 260 in 2 versions, one with thin bumpers and one with big bumpers (like the 280Z's). How rare and how many of the thin bumpered 260's were made?

A bit of enlightnment.....

1974 The engine displacement of the 1974 model is increased to 2.6-liters, and the car is renamed the 260Z. Due to stricter emissions requirements, horsepower is down to 139.

1974 also brings the introduction of the 2+2 body style, which accommodates fold-down rear seats.

In its only year of existence, the 260Z sets a single-year Z-car sales record at the time, with 63,963 units sold.

Good buy!!! I bought a 260 some years ago,for 3000$,was a great car, I then met Z-car people who told me, "but the 240s are soo much better"....Well, someone took it off the road for me (old lady). So I get a 240.:')Her insurance buying,..
Love It too,But,I think the 260 had better interior styling, which,as far as I can tell, is the only difference.Except, for Bumpers, add few hundred LBs.
Z-experts,,I know you're saying;engine size;260 was; 240 has a L26 for some ass reason.

So anyway,ENJOY your 260,they are GREAT!!!

260s came with rear sway bars,
wish 240 did,can add those though.Believe the experts on the carbs, the original flat tops are a pain,/suck!
