My 73 240 started finally, after some non-scientific playing around with the choke and the timing. I still have to get a timing light and check it, but it is idling a bit high, and there is a miss or something in the #5 cylinder (counting from the front). When I pull the plug, the car idles smoothly, but with the plug connected, it coughs/backfires sporadically.
new sending unit works fine, yay.
My choke cables seem sticky. How much range should I have at the carbs? I had been getting about a half an inch or less. WHen I take off the cables, the choke mechanism drops down, making it seem like the cable should move a good inch or two at least. I will lube up the cable and see whether I can get more movement from it.
Any thoughts about the coughing??
Nice to have it running, even roughly.
