Looking to purchase a 76 280z and I’m pretty sure this is a scam.

Have you run into anything like this?

Seriously, who the **** writes an email like this about selling a car? It’s too generic.

This is the most recent email the seller sent:

Hi,
I apologize for the delay. I have been swamped at work. I purchased the car almost two years ago from Stockton, Ca. Has always been garaged, no accidents and has no rust. The car has a clear title and comes with a large collection of history files, car and take care of the sale for me. The shipping & payment part of the transaction will be handled by Anker Ltd. The vehicle is now located in their transit warehouse in Tacoma, WA because I had a buyer from that area but he canceled the deal due to personal reasons. They have in their custody both the vehicle and the title signed for release, which had been verified by their inspectors and they already gave the go ahead to begin the transaction.
Regarding the payment, there is a 3 days inspection period available for you once you will receive the vehicle in which you have the possibility to do an inspection to any authorized service of your choice before the company will release any money to me. If you decide not to keep it for any reason the vehicle will be sent back to me (free of charge for you) and you will get a full refund no questions asked. So basically I only receive the money if you are happy about what you are buying.

Please read their how it works webpage on http://anker-shipping.com/how_it_works.phpand decide if you agree or not.

To be able to start this transaction you need to register on the shipping company's website. Once you are done, I will approve the deal from my account and my agent will contact you in order to go ahead with the purchase.

P.S. You should know that the car will be shipped anywhere within the States at my expense !

Looking forward to successfully completing this transaction.

No way in **** should you even reply to that. Total scam job, from one end to the other.
It's really sad trying to buy a good Z now compared to the mid 2000's ... so many more are just BS scams. Probably would be a good idea to work with the common Z sites (zcar, hybridz, classiczcars) to put a site overlay or logo on uploaded images (Assuming theses sites host them and not external hosts).

I swear I've seen a few of these Z's before.

and the best part... the current scammer is using his real name. I tracked down his resume (online) which says he worked on the website he listed as his "work email". Then I found him on LinkedIn... this could be fun. Even found his address(but he's not US based). Claimed he works for europe-oceana.org so I'm curious to see if he'll reply via his office email.

Any time they use the words "Agent" or "Transit Warehouse", run. Run as fast as you can.
I always ask for new pictures of the car, and ask for specific things in the picture, like a close up of the three pedals as well as the muffler. If they balk about not being able to get to the car for some reason or another, or they send you one of the pictures they already have, it is definitely a scam.

However, I happen to have an 83 Turbo for sale. It is sitting in my driveway right now, ready to go to a new home. No scams what so ever. I know it's not an older one that you seem to be interested in, but it is still a great car, in great shape and will start and drive without any problems.

This is in regard to the initial post within this thread. I have had a very similar situation with a car posted on OodleMarketplace and it's apparently affiliate site Yupyl. Here is a copy of the letter I received from a person named David Andrews Davies regarding my interest in his 1996 Jaguar XJS Convertible he had listed on both sites.

Hi Jim,
I apologize for the delay. I have been swamped at work. Since I'm quite busy with my job and unable to travel back to the States, I have decided to hire a company to ship the Jaguar and take care of the sale for me. The car comes with a large collection of history files, manuals, brochures and receipts.

This is almost the exact letter received by the person posting about the Datsun 280Z!

Aside from that, I have no opinion. ;)
"Car ran [email protected] mph on normal street tires at Bandimere which is 5800 above sea level
Easily a low 11 second 12X mph car at sea level with traction. "

a 12.5 1/4 mile car is not 'stupid fast' by a long shot. And a 12.5 a Bandimere is a 12.5 at Bandimere... take it to sea level and run it "low 11 second car" my arse till it does it!

Piece of advice.... if you hear this phrase "Since I'm quite busy with my job and unable to travel back to the States" from ANYBODY OTHER THAN ME: RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!

Any time a car ad starts complicating things and the owner wants you to do ANYTHING other than put CASH in his/her hand, RUN AWAY.

And these people aren't bright enough to come up with their own script, so they steal from others.
You should always be careful when making a transaction with an unknown vendor. I've been reading a lot of scamming incidents all over the internet, try to look for red flags.
Just thought I’d share my experience with the same website Y###i where a seller advertised his motorcycle. Here’s his response (sound familiar?)

Hi Steve,
The bike has matching numbers and is 5 speed. Since I'm quite busy with my job and unable to travel back to the States, I have decided to hire a company to ship the bike and take care of the sale for me. The shipping & payment part of the transaction will be handled by CXX Ltd. The bike is now located in their transit warehouse in Tacoma, WA because I had a buyer from that area but he canceled the deal due to personal reasons. They have in their custody both the bike and the title signed for release, which had been verified by their inspectors and they already gave the go ahead to begin the transaction. The bike comes with a clean title in my name and a large collection of history files, manuals, brochures and receipts.
Regarding the payment, there is a 3 days inspection period available for you once you will receive the bike in which you have the possibility to do an inspection to any authorized service of your choice before the company will release any money to me. If you decide not to keep it for any reason the bike will be sent back to me (free of charge for you) and you will get a full refund with no questions asked. So basically I only receive the money if you are happy about what you are buying.

Please read their how it works webpage on http://
note: “I removed this url as this shipper may not be a part of this scheme”

To be able to start this transaction you need to register on the shipping company's website. Once you are done, I will approve the deal from my account and my agent will contact you in order to go ahead with the purchase.

P.S. You should know that the bike will be shipped anywhere within the States at my expense !

This is undoubtedly a scam pure and simple so beware folks!
yeeep

Scams unfortunately exist in various forms, including online car sales. It's important to be vigilant and exercise caution to protect yourself from potential fraud.
I just posted a Facebook listing for a decent looking 1980 280ZX in Denver. It's in the Classifieds. Not my car, no knowledge of it, just sharing a listing.
