Covering the rocker panels? (below the door)

I'm not aware of any factory rocker panel coverings used by Datsun prior to the ZX. So, I'd guess that the parts you have are aftermarket, and were probably installed to cover up rusty rocker panels. You'll want to take them off anyway (even if you plan on reinstalling them) to clean them up, so that'll give you a good chance to check out the rust situation.

Thanks for the input, I will be leaving them off in the restoration. By the way, miraculously this 76 Z has no rust not even under the rocker panels... it was Ziebart treated and outside only for nice weather.... paint is just weather beaten. And the carpeting is no good... even the floors have original paint.

I have the ribbed trim as well. I have seen it on multiple 280Z so it must have been a Option of some sort. I have a 1978 280Z

Anyone else ever see the ribbed trim? If it was an actual Datsun option, then I would like to put it back on, however if it was original equipment was it rivetted or screwed on????
