My 83ZXturbo has 191k miles, Compression is 155lb-160lb across all cylinders., but it smokes a little(very briefly) if I go past 5k rpm. Is it normal to smoke a little ( quite little) at higher RPMs?

When I was playing with the timing, mine would do that after a real nice PING. Try retarding timing a couple of degrees,if not just bring it back.

Don't Know....but

just a thought....it may be the valve seals are getting worn and at the higher rpm's is sucking some oil into the combustion chambers. really need an engine guru to post on possible causes though.

May be the turbo seals/bearings?

I think the positive turbo pressure would hinder oil passage past the valve seals. Worn turbo seals would cause smoke and not directly affect your compression tests. Maybe time to upgrade?
