I'm having one **** of a time getting the oil pump in so I can set the correct timing. The best I can acheive is 2 to 3 degrees advanced. My question is, can the fixing plate on the bottom of the distributor be moved slightly to provide more advance timng without causing other problems?

Upon replacing my engine with a much more built one I had to switch the "fixing plate" with one from a 260Z distributor to get anywhere near the timing I needed. The plate slides right on and is held with one bolt. Or you can possibly get enough advance by enlarging the slot in the plate you already have. Shouldn't hurt anything. What has been done to your engine, what year car, etc.

Hope this helps

Thanks Matt; It's a 78, Pretty much stock, I left the bottom end Stock, had the head ported & polished With a mild cam. I'll try moving the plate on the bottom a bit because i'm pretty close on the timing.
