Is there anyway to replace just the key portion of my ignition, the steering lock doesn't seem to work on my used replacement and the only thing wrong with my original ignition is that any screwdriver can start my car.
This whole article has useful information on Lock Repair. You are interested in item #7. You don't have to remove your whole steering column, the security bolts come out very easily with a small chisel or screw driver. Just tap the outer edges in the counter-clockwise direction. I haven't tried this yet so let us know how you make out.
Locksmiths repair them often enough. The individual that wrote the article repaired his with success. Although I haven't done/tried mine yet I was looking for feedback from a lay person. It would be cheaper than buying new locks or a new car, and maybe something could be learned. What do you think?
