1972 240Z. Has anyone experienced overheating of the coil and ballist resister? I was having trouble with my car running for a short period and then dying. I installed new coil, condenser, rotor, ballast resister. It ran great for about a half hour and then had the same problem. I felt the coil and resister and were very hot. Is it possible the voltage regulator is bad. If the coil is overheated will it be ruined?

Are you running points or an electronic version? If you're running points then it's very important that the dwell (also known as dwell angle) be set properly. If your dwell is set way too long (as worn ones do) then it will cause weak spark and hot coils.
