I had to remove the gas tank from my '81 Turbo to clean it after the car sat for 10 years. There was no drain plug. I removed the fuel gauge sending unit from inside the car and siphoned the gas out. I do not recommend drilling a hole and/or tapping it. The metal is too thin to tap threads back into. If you do drill a hole to drain the gas, then gas will be running out the hole and down the shaft of your drill as you are making the hole. Gas running into an electric motor is NOT a good thing! Besides, if you plan on reusing the tank then you will somehow have to close the hole back up. Welding on a gas tank is ALSO not a good thing to do. I strongly suggest that you remove the sending unit/fuel pickup unit from inside the car (you have to disconnect the hoses there anyway) and siphon the gas out.
