I currently have suspension techniques springs (lower the car about an inch) and tokiko shocks(non adjust) on my 240z . I bought bump steer spacers and also have a set of Jim Cook racing springs. The Jim Cook springs will lower the car about 2 inches from what i understand. Am I going to have bottoming out problems with these springs installed with the tokikos and stock struts or is it best fo stick with the susp. techniques springs. There must be a reason most of the aftermarket springs lower the car about 1 to 1.5 inches.? Thanks in advance.

Zs are pretty low stock, 2" does not sound like much, but it is quite a drop.

The main problem you will have is catching your exhaust pipe on stuff.

If you want the lowered look an aero kit will help.

The main thing you want is your control arms front and back to be level or parallel with the ground while your Z is sitting on its tires full weight just like you'd drive it. When you make the control arms lower at the crossmember than they are at the ball joints funny things start happening with the cars roll center. This is why the racers who lower the Z's more actually move the mounting points for the control arms up and in a little on the front crossmember it restores the geometry to at least parallel. When the arms are lower at the crossmember it actually makes body roll worse. With a 2" drop you will need a way to adjust camber unless you like wearing the insides of your tires out before the rest of the tread even shows wear!

Check your control arms with the susp tech. springs to judge if you want to go lower. Yes you will also have more trouble with speed bumps and dips in the road with a 2" drop. I scrape my exhaust front and back all the time.

I'm definetly not trying to talk you out of using the springs but if you don't use them I may be interested in buying them I've got a project going that already has the required mods to go that low and am looking for some springs. email me at
[email protected] if you decide to get rid of them. I also have LOTS of parts for all years Z and ZX if you need anything - I'm not trying to get rich of it either.
