how do you check fusible links?

i received a NA 86 300zx for free from a friend that lost interest in it. ok well to my question the car's electronics are dead everything except the fuel pump, headlights (dont rise up) just turn on, and the light for the clock and power seats. It does have the electronics package. so what i have done is checked the fuse box and all the fuses are good so i wanted to check the fusible links but never have ran into the before. and i google searched how to check them and didn't get a clear anwser. sorry for the long winded question lol. also the car doesnt start but i figure if the electonics are fixed it will start.

pull the cover off the fusible link box just forward of the battery. If they are smoked you usually have a visual indication. Be sure there is a feed from the +12 battery post to the fusiable link box. If you pull them out you can check with vom. look for corroded broken burnt connectors in the box. location shown in the fsm on EL191 (that is 85 but probably there or close by). be sure battery cables are clean and free of corrosion both ends and terminals are tight. Have the battery load tested. Z's with low voltage are a gemlins paradise.
All great advice. Allow me to add 1 thing. Fusible links are designed to burn slower than a reg fuse. In some cases you can get a good resistance reading but the link will be bad. (Same situation with some bad coils.) The problem is the amount of current that you are not running through the link with the MM. (I am omitting a long story of mine and a wannabe TonyD-tech-explanation.)

ALL that said, use a jumper to quickly verify fusible links. REMEMBER other people reading this, electronic issues can come and go.
i had a quick question my friend turned the knob on the ECU and didnt mark its orginial position am i screwed? or is there a way to find its orginial position?
I believe the knob on the ecu only has two correct positions. read the fsm. download free from xenon site. check the faq. don't let friends fiddle with knobs unless they have advanced degrees in EE.
