I have a 75 280Z. I'd like to put a performace exhaust system and headers on it. Also I'd like to improve the air intake. I'm hoping to get a few extra horses by doing this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

RE: Exhaust upgrades. I have installed a 6 in 2 into 1 type header and large bore exhaust on my 81 280ZX and had GREAT results. I still hve the stock CAT in place but was amazed.. TRY it YOU'LL LIKE IT JD

Chris,
Dyno runs show that headers will add 3-5 HP to your car above 5,000 RPM. Not even that much below it. Also, headers tend to be maintenance nightmares as they are thin walled and burn through easily as well as having warping problems.
Do basically all or none of the following. doing just part of it won't give you the full bang for your buck:
1) K & N air filter
2) Big bore throttle body - match port it to your intake manifold
3) Match port your stock exhaust manifold to your head
4) Install a 2 1/2 exhaust with a good turbo reverse flow muffler.
This way you open up both ends of the engine for freer breathing. This is a synergistic effect where 1+1=3.
I you have more money to burn it can get a lot more expensive from this on.
