I just pulled a rear out of a 80ZX for my 74-260Z. Its an hour job. Jack it up as high as you can take off the rear wheels unbolt the axles. Unbolt the drive line and just slide it forward. There is 4 bolts that hold up both rears. The 240 has a crossmember at the front with 4 bolts in a line. The ZX has 4 bolts stagerd.( Dont worry they are the same when you get them out and next to each other.) The ZX has 1 bolt at the rear the 240 has a crossmember. Its easy. Just unbolt all the supporting stuff you will be suprised how easy it is.

if you want to swap the differential into a early z car, you will need the driveshaft, halfshafts, mustache bar, and differential mounts off a 280z with a r200 already installed. i don't think the zx parts will fit. just the differential. joe has the right idea on how to get it out though. might take longer depending on how hard the bolts are frozen. good luck.

The mounting on the ZX is different but the housing is the same. These are alot like chevrolet every thing will interchange. They may look different in the car but once there out you can see they are alike. When I swaped mine I went with the ZX half shafts since they were larger in diameter. all the mounting hardware bolts right up.
