I have a 75 z that is completely stock and its pretty quick but I'd like it to be a little faster. Do headers alone give you a good power gain? Can I keep my stock muffler or get a different one. I also don't want it to be really loud. Any info would help.

well headers alone wont do it and honestly unless your engine is a little modified they really wont give you any real noticeable gains. you could opt for a larger diameter piping for your exhaust and go with a dynomax turbo muffler so it wont be loud. also try a K&N cone type air filter to help it breathe. bigger throttle body will also help you out. small things to give you a little more juice without getting obnoxious.

If you get a header with a good 2 1/2 exhaust system you will feel a seat of the paints difference. MSA sells a nice system that will give you a good sound! I would guess with the complete system you should gain 15-20 hp. Hope this helps.

The theory

The headers will make your exhaust gas flow faster and smoother because there is less restriction. Being able to do this doesn't really gain you anything major unless you are able to make your inlet flow faster and with more volume.
