I have a 1976 260Z 2+2 (Australia - we did not get the 280Z with electronic ignition) and have trouble starting it when cold - it doesn't want to kick over. The car itself is in excellent condition and has done less than 100,000 miles and the previous owner's replaced the pathetic 260Z carbs with 'authentic' SU carbs to stop a fuel evaporation problem (but was hard starting & the engine would 'pop' until warmed).

I have since replaced the carbs with rebuilt 240Z's, renewed the points, distributor cap, leads, coil with no improvement.

Does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks Colin.

Check if choke works. I assume your car has manual choke in the center console. I had similar problem on my US 260Z with SU's. Turned out that choke cable did not close the flap suffiently. Little tuning did it.
