I am planning on swapping my half shafts in my 76 280Z with the newer ZX cv jointed half shafts. my question is if anybody knows what the spline is on the axle stubs for my 76. I have read Terry Oxandale's race car mods for datsun 240z. it talks about the 240 and 260 being different but not about the 280. if any one happens to be able to know please let know.thanks

Why do you want to swap out the halfshafts?
On my 76 I put in new u-joints, works great.
The connection to the differential depends on wheter it's
an R180(auto) - spline or R200(manual) - 4 bolt.
I would reccommend Neapco brute force u-joints pn # 1-0029-BF
available at Pep Boys for $14.00 @.

same splines, just swap them out. The 260 deal was a one year only change as fr as I can tell. the 240,280,280zx all had the same splines. different bearing sizes though. One thing -- a rear mount sway bar won't clear the cv joints in a first gen z car. you have to have one that mounts in friont of the differential. At least that's the way it is in my 240.
