I love them! Of course they are not installed yet since the car is going to the paint shop this week. I did hook them up for a try out. Much better than stock. I ended up buying the 60/55 watt versions. Here is the web site that I ordered them from:

After searching the web, these guys were the cheapest for the Hellas. They were $67.78 for the pair + $7.00 for shipping. Sure I could have gotten some H-4's cheaper from some of the other guys that sell them on this site or EBAY, but the Hella name is one that I can trust.

I got mine saturday, and from Ebay. I asked them about the lights and Hella was their OEM for their product. I said that will do, I got the blue/white lights that are the 90 watt version. I plugged one in the car and it looked good. No more dim lights for my car. Total 65.00 and some change. Not to bad.

Legal Questions.... Recommendations?

if the headlamps arent DOT approved... that means they're illegal for street use correct?

whats the best headlamp set you can legaly setup?
i went to the Hella site JohnB510 supplied... and looked around.. what about the HB2 rated lamps?

Z's use the "2 headlamp" sets right?
i'd like to upgrade my lights on my 75 280z cause they're just too dim. not hardly even useful.

any recommended LEGAL lamp sets?

thanks

Re: Legal Questions.... Recommendations?

Yes, Hella makes a DOT approved lamp (vision plus). The H-4 are not DOT approved because the beam cut off pattern is not diffused. The Vision Plus, which are DOT approved will out perform the regular headlamps that are on your car. Odds are your inspector will not know the difference. What they will notice is if your headlight are out of alignment! So what ever you install, make sure they are aligned!
Here is a link on reviews on the H-4's
http://www.miata.net/products/lights/hella.html

The Z's use the 2 lamp system (each lamp has a high and low beam).
The HB2 bulb is for the H-4 system...

They are good too.

The main difference is the cut off pattern between the H-4's and the vision plus lights. The vision plus cut off is diffused on the sides and the H-4 cut off is sharp.
Read the reviews on the link on my post below... the last review sums it up well.
