Fuel smell in car coming from rear hatch

I have had occasional fuel odor in the car, but now it is unbearable. I filled up the car the other day and REALLY threw it around. It is as if actual fuel got up into the vent or in the vent lines and is sitting in the vent and or vent lines.

It's one thing to have cracked 30 year old vent lines, but is there supposed to be a one-way flap or something that prevents fuel from getting up there instead of just relieving pressure?

Has anyone eliminated the whole **** venting thing or set up a system that vents COMPLETELY outside the car.

I want to rid my car of this scourge once and for all.

Sounds like you have a cracked vent hose INSIDE the car.

The fuel vapor recovery tank is located on the right hand side to the front of the fuel filler neck. The hoses from the tank connect to the filler neck inside the car as well as being routed to the tank via the back panel. Those are the ones that get dry and crack.

The only way to fix this right, is to change the vent hoses.
