How do you check your fuel pump to see if its working correctly and is it an external or in tank pump. How hard are they to change?

the fuel pump and sending unit are in the tank. the tank must be dropped to get them out.

I'm not sure about the pump, but you don't have to drop the tank for the sending unit. Just lift your carpet in the rear hatch and the access plate for the sending unit is right there.

Have you let the pump run and checked your fuel pressure? Just turn the key on and off a few times, then check your fuel pressure via the bleeder on your fuel rail.

Bobs,
I could be wrong about the bleeder. I JUST got an '86 for my fiancee, and there may not be a bleeder on the rail, I haven't even looked yet, working on a tranny problem at the moment. I'm positive someone here can tell you the best way to check for good pressure though.
