fuel pump/oil issues

510 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  The Z Doctor
Hello,

I have a 74 260Z and I think that the fuel pump is blowing oil all over the passenger side of the motor. Is this possible? I cleaned the motor and valve cover completely, and the oil looks like it is being sprayed from the back side of the pump right onto the valve cover/head from the back side of the pump. Is there anything else in this general area that I should check out? Thanks.

do ya have a mechinal fuel pump? there could be a leak somewhere along the block plates on the side and front of the head...if the gasket's leaking it could seep out oil. dont know how it would spray it though.
Yes, I have the mechinical pump and the electric pump. Are you talking about the head gasket?
He is talking about the opening in the head that the fuel pump is powered off the lobe on the front of the cam. There are gaskets and a heat separator between the head and the fuel pump.

I've got a mechanical fuel pump off of a 73 if you want it. I'm not completely sure it'll go on a 260 but it's still in great condition. $10 plus shipping
Engine oil enters the vent chamber of the fuel pump and sprays out the weep hole. Solution is to replace the pump.
