I am getting very tired of my stock gas tank. Does anyone have experience or information on installing a fuel cell into an early z car?

I would like to cut out the spare tire sheetmetal, weld in a rectangular recess (as deep as or greater than the original spare tire recess), and mount a fuel cell in the inside of the car.... maybe with a new filler pipe connecting to an outside aviation style filler lid (ala ferrari and many other early cars).

This mod might even have the benefit of leaving enough space under the rear of the car for a true dual exhaust and almost any muffler configuration you could think of.

Please excuse me if I am ranting, but the gas fumes inside my car just might be getting to the few brain cells I haver left.

Thanks in advance,

Don't you think by putting the fuel cell inside the car that you would still get gas fumes? Most race cars, or pro street cars have fuel cells, but they are in the trunck so you don't get fumes. Try replacing all the vent hoses first, and check for any leaks. The smallest leak will smell very strong. Good luck

If I had a trunk, I might consider mounting a fuel cell and my battery there... but alas I dont have one. Most real race cars DONT have a trunk. The fuel cell is mounted very close to the driver Inside the shell, which is bolted to a subframe. Sometimes even a couple of smaller fuel cells to distribute weight.

I realize that this is atypical of a street car, but a good fuel cell won't put fumes in the car. If it is vented, it will have to be vented to the exterior of the car.

Yes I have replaced the hoses, pipe, etc... this seems like a good mod that will also allow more room underneath...????

May not be a mod for the purist who wants to keep the stock car and ALL of its stock horsepower, but I thought that there might be some hard core datsun racers out there that have seen the advantages to a real fuel cell mounted insider or even underneath the car...?

Thanks,
