Ok,
I've searched and searched but all for naught. I'm working on my friends 77280z and it will not start. Cranks great, but the starters kinda goin, gets fuel at least to the exit of the filter, getting spark, I even cleaned up the plugs a little. My 2 questions are this. How do you check if the fuel is actually getting into the engine? In my ru's I use a steth on the injectors and you can hear them click ing along, in this Z I got nothing. I don't think they are firing if you get my drift. Anyway the second question is that theres a connector coming from the firewall on the battery side. Its attached to the one that has the fusable link inline to the fuel pump. Has the same sytle connector too, but its not hooked up to anything. should it be? Ok the other side is a question for me. What "grade" would you consider a cam with 280 degrees duration with .480 in lift? There was a post just a few days ago that said, but I cannot find it. Someone had stated the max cam spec for a mostly stock motor, can someone tell me again please?
Thanks,
hey got a question for ya! have you rebuilt the block? if so, what kind of pistons did you use? dished or flattops? do ya know the compression?
tanks!! i think that fusible link that you are talking about is for the EFI, but i could be wrong...you said you hear the injectors, so maybe if you rebuilt the engine, the timing is 180 degress off, thats why she wont start?
also check the relays in the black box in front of the battery. I had the same problem with mine about a month ago, replaced the relay and Pow! she fired right up
Its correct that my injectors are not firing. I didn't rebuilt the block, just kinda put it back togather. Basically some stooge with no brain told my friend that the car had a rod knock. I had heard the thing run long ago when he got it, and all I remember is that it needed a valve adjustment.... bad. I didn't know him that well at the time and him, having little to no mechanical knowledge started to rip the engine apart. He basically pulled the valve cover off, the oil pan and the wiring harness out. Parked it in the garage, cleaned the garage years later to rediscover it. He tried to give it to me, but I already had 5 cars at that time and he was driving his dads truck so I told him I'd reassemble it. About two years ago, I got it running again, and he drove it around for a year and a half. About 8 months ago it had some trouble starting in the cold, then 6 months ago it wouldn't start unless it was floored and then it wouldn't idle. It sat until last week when I got the seats in trade for some work to it. It wouldn't crank because the power wires were so corroded. He replaced the negitive, I got the positive, and hooked up the fuel pump. Does anyone have any idea if that other connector coupled to the fuel pump link is supposed to go anywhere? hybrid77z... where is the ecu? I have a spare, and I've looked, but I cannot find the **** thing. mt 240-350 I would really like to check the relay thing out as thats more of a wear part, do you happen to know which one it is?
Thanks everyone,
Phil
Ok,
I found the ecu and the connection appears to be good. Is it possiable that it is bad? Is that common? I have a spare, but the part numbers do not match. the spare is like A11 000 050 and both my car and Josiahs are A11 600 000 or something like that. Do these interchange? Also, wheres that relay. I took the little shelf off, but there are what look like two different relays and then the voltage regulator in there. Which one is it?
Thanks,
PHil
