I'm trying to take my FS5W71B tranny apart to clean it out, and I can't get the striking guide out. Right now, the rear extension and front cover are off, but I can't get the lock pin out of the striking rod to remove the striking lever. I removed the nut and washers, and then tried to knock the pin out with a hammer and 3/8" extension. It won't come out, and it seems to be off center in its hole. What should I do here?
Also, my shift lever doesn't look like the one in the manual. It's curved in two places, and the bushings between it and the striking guide are a different shape. My Z is a 1983 280zx non-turbo. Any ideas on why it's like this? The lever looks old enough to be the original--the bushing that fits into the striking rod is cracked, and all the plastic is yellow, I guess from oil exposure.
