I put some 6 by 9 speakers + boxs in the back of my car, but there's still
stock speakers in the front dash (which crackle every time i turn up the radio)
. Before I go and take all the dash apart, to replace them, does any one know what size the speakers are in the front?

My 1980 ZX speakers dash speakers arre 4 1/2. I just guessing that all 79 thru 83 are the same.

I always thought they were 3 1/2 speakers. In the dash. I've never heard of 4 1/2 speakers.

This really must sound confusing, but I've replaced mine (81 280ZX n/a) and they were 4 inch speakers. And I'll just add that they are a pain in the butt to replace too! Have fun!

I have an 81 280 ZX and the factory locations in the dash are terrible for good sound. My suggestion to you would be to get a componet system(seperate woofers and tweeters) and put that in my car. you would need a small amp to drive them but it shouldnt cost too much more than 30 to 50 bucks. Install the woofers in the factory location behind the seat and put the tweeters in the far corners of the dash. keep your 6X9's though. Component woofers arent designed to hit hard. i have a setup like this in my car and it sounds sweet. e-mail if you ahve any questions.

I changed the ones on my 83 ZXT. It was a pain to do and I suggest you consider getting the best pair of 4 inch speakers money can buy because you do not ever want to do it again. Good luck. John.
