A week ago I had a new radiator, thermostat, and hoses put in my 280Z. Then just the other day, a piece of the alternator or its bracket, broke off, hit the fan, and gouged a huge smilely face in the new radiator. What luck! Hopefully the mechanic will be a nice guy and not charge me too much for this additional work.

Anyways, before this happened I had been out getting squirley in the rain. And my last donut really sucked. I dumped first, went for second.. and couldn't find it!! I went for it 4 times and grinded it like there was no tommorrow. I think I grinded it really fuckin bad because the car doesnt seem to slow down as much as it used to when downshifting. Does anyone know how much it might cost to fix this?

Re: get a new one

> Ya find a good used tranny from a 75-83Z car for under a 100 dollars and swap it. Cause fixing it will cost way more than that. Good luck

If it don't go in the second time...stop trying! Just get it into gear nice and easy then go to having fun again. Chances are you'll save a tranny in the process.

2 cents worth for what it's worth

Abusing car = car abusing you

If you can't find it, grind it isn't really a good idea. Especially when you've got a older car, as all of 240-280 owners do. Your car is just responding to the treatment it's getting. If you want to 'abuse' the car in this way, then you're going to have to expect these things to break, especially since most of these components have 100K miles or more on them.

My advice?? Sounds like you ground so many gear fragments into the tranny, that they are just all over the place, and it's just a matter of time before the whole thing goes kaput. Maybe pull a $100 tranny out of a junkyard before this one goes, so you won't be stuck.

Cars are kind of like women, treat them with respect and care, and they will respond well to your desire. However, if you mistreat and neglect them, be ready to face the consequences.
