fix it

I definately dont think you should scrap it for that. It isnt that bad, and you do have a low serial # mine is 11966 pretty close huh? anyhow, its not bad and you can get that fixed pretty easily. I used to do bodywork years ago. Anyhow good luck...NB

What happened...

well it started about 3 weeks ago, i left with some friends to go get dinner at around 11:00 PM, got back at around 2PM and it is as i see it.

It was parked at the street infront of my house at the time.

a week after it had been hit, someone broke into it and stole some suspension stuff i had in the trunk, and took my triple webers off the engine.

got it towed to the back of the house (garage) the next day and it is as it is now

Re: What happened...

Yikes! Did you just cry after it happened? Talk about insult to injury, getting broken into after getting hit. It's nice that someone would hit your car and do that much damage and just drive off . Real nice. The suspension and body can be fixed. Hopefully the frame is not damaged too badly, but I bet the impact loosened up some stuff. At any rate, fix it; there are too few 240's running around as it is. That special car needs your help.

Re: Keep it

Keep it man. I have a 71, same color and everything. Mine just lost a cylinder and cause of lack of work ive had to park it til I can save up the money to get it rebuilt. There are very few of the 70-71's left anymore. Mine was pretty much brought back to life, nearly everything new that you had done to yours except i hadnt gotten the triples yet. So I guess mine will sit til after christmas time and hope i get money for christmas. Good luck and keep it! Laterzzzz

Don't crush 'em! Restore 'em!

heeh thats my moto! and that isn't nearly as bad as it could be. Go and get that fixed man.. and then.. later, when karma plays a twisted series of fate.. you can laugh at hte goomer that hit you! ;) hehe Hate to say it but the guy who hit probably was some disreputable z owner. No other reason he'd think to pull the latch and go to the effort to pull the manifold off the block... :( Hope that helps. sorry man.. but get that fixed!!!! :)

Re: Fix IT?

I don't know. I remember your first post about what happened. If I remember the passenger front is almost worse. The way that rear wheel is sitting looks really bad. I would be really amazed if the whole rear is way out of wack. The unibody is probably going to need a straightening in a couple of places. They must of hit it with a little truck or SUV at about 50mph. I LOVE ALL Zs REALLY. But, unless you want to spend like $10,000 or have the ability to have the repairs done to make that thing right again then sell it to somebody that does or something.

I'm really sorry for your loss sounds like it was a great little 240Z

Re: problem with the passenger front...

oh also the drivers side door doesn't fit right when shut... either it is shifted, or the frame is. also the hood shuts off center (to the point of scraping against that lieelt flapper on the driver side of the hoo (covering the fluid thingie) so i think the unibody will at least need to be straitened...

other question if i remove the A-arm how do i put a new one on... meaning don't i need a spring compressor and what not?

Re: problem with the passenger front...

That really sucks, a friend of mine lost her vintage BRE 510 to some drunk in an RX7. Same story the car was sitting in front of her house. I've got a early 240 as well, manufacture date 10/70. I'm restoring it and believe me its a lot of work but well worth it to me. I would take it to a good body shop that you trust and let them give you their opinion of what is wrong and how to fix. If you can't afford to fix it at least try to sell it to someone who will, don't scrap it!

Re: Rear control arm

I belivev that you should be able to chang the control-arm with out a spring compressor. You will obviously have to jack the car up. But, after that as long as you don't try to loosen the nut on top of the strut (inside the car), which you don't need to do. You should have no problem. However, that is where I think the most damage to the car is. I think you are going to need some work done to the points where the control-arm mounts to the car. I would be surprised if the rear control arm is the only thing damaged under there.
