I have the Chiltons and Hayens service manuals..but they tell me the factory is better.
I saw the CD for sell for an 82zx; I own an 83.

so my questions are:
is worth it or should I just stick with the chiltons and haynes ( I also have the how to rebuild (and modify) your ohc engine book and the restoring one).

and will the cd for the 82 work for my 83?

I can't say for 100% sure, but the '82 will probably be close enough to work. One of my back burner projects is installing a good '82 engine in an '83 body I got and as far as I can tell so far, all the doodads and plug-ins are exactly the same. The body had the digital dash, so I may run into some glitches there, but the engine compartment is the same.

After you get the FSM, you will see how truly pathetic Haynes and Chilton are for SERIOUS work on your particular car. They're fine for changing oil and timing and simple stuff, but far to general in most areas to be of any use at all. They do,however, make great blotters for putting under houseplants in case you overwater them.

One other comment on FSM is that you can often find them on eBay. In fact, there is one for an '83 ZX on there right now, and the bidding is only around $21. It'll probably go for around $50 though. Unless you have a problem with freeze plugs...

i scoured the FSM... and NOTHING
i'm guessing the FSM is too good for infantile problems such as that...
so... if you have a problem with the freeze plugs.. you best grab your Haynes from under the plant before it gets too wet to read.

If you keep the digital dash...

you will need the water temp sensor for the gauge from the 83 block.

If you swap the analoge dash from the 82 into the 83 you will need the 82 dash wiring harness as well as the 82 temp sensor.

I fought for one on Ebay about 6 months ago and had to pay 98.00 so get it while it's aval and no one else needs it 81,82 come up pretty regulary but the 83 is the stickler. and if it's any help under dash electronics are the same for the 82 as well as the 83

hah hah! I dont know what everyone thought I ment by "CD" but I ment compact disc.

You see... courtesy Nissan sells compact disc versions of the factory service manuals for like $40. They only sell it for the 82 models though..not the 83...so I was wondering if it made a differnce.

What's all this dash talk about????
