I finished fabricating my rear bumper brackets to put the 240 bumpers on my 280z. I'll be sending the bumpers off this week to get rechromed and straightened. I've not drilled my quarter panel for the side bolt yet, I'll do that after I get them back. Just figured I'd share my method in case anyone was interested.

Looks good. You'll gain a bunch of strength if you round the corners with weld. Especially the 90 degree one where you ground it down. If you bring the weld around the corner you'll help make up for the loss of strength.

Nice work

Good tip. Thanks. I've gone around the corner on other stuff, just didn't do it on these. It's got a bead on the other side and that bumper weighs nothing. I'll hit the corners when I pull them off to paint.
The fab work looks good. I wouldn't worry one bit about making the bracket stronger, it would be a wasted effort. The bracket is already 10 times stronger than the bumper bolted to it. So what would be the point in making it stronger. The way it is fine. Good Work. 8)

I might suggest you look into the 'rear bumper end cap' that will help cover the leading edge of the bumper and help hide the indent. Black Dragon has them, 98-052 & 98-053, l&r.

The legend / myth goes, very narrow streets and lots of pedestrians, the ladies skirts were getting caught on the leading edge of the rear bumper. Therefore, the caps.

Fact? or Myth?

This is what they look like installed.
