Hi,

My z has an exhaust leak and I was told that it will cost between $450 to $900 to fix it depending on the shop, and whether the exhaust manifold need to be replaced or not. Are these prices reasonable?

Also, is this a big job that a beginner like me can not do? I mainly do basic jobs like replacing oil, oil filter, plugs and plug wires etc.

Your opinions will be appreciated.

Thank you

At $75 an hour it could get that expencive pretty quickly depending on what needs to be done, $400 labor is only 5.3 hours which is cheap IMHO if they are going to be fixing broken studs too. This is WAY beyond replacing spark plugs given it probably has broken exhaust studs in the head.

Also the way the exhaust manifold is made/shaped makes doing this job on a later ZX a major bitch compared to any of the earlier Z's. It's almost easier to pull the head on those because of the shape of the manifold. Like I said the earlier ones are -much- easier so you can't compare doing an 82 to a 76-78 or even a 79-80ZX.
