Its not really no exhaust but very little cut it off right before the cat. Man its awesome. Its REALLY LOUD but it sounds really cool. I just drove it around the block and reved it to about 4k in first gear(automatic) and it sounded so fricken cool. I'm going in the morning to have a pipe welded in place for the rust pipe and clogged cat was. Too bad its illegal to drive around with an open exhasut or I'd think about leaving it like that. hmmm maybe get a legal exhasut to sound similar, too bad I dont have that kinda money.

You havent lived until you've diven a L-6 with open exhasut. I be it sounds alot better comming through a header instead of a stock manifold.

In the morning I gotta drive it about 5 miles to the shop and I cant wait. I wouldnt try driving it with out a manifold(if that what you ment) I'm not that crazy:) If you take off the manifold you have ZERO bck pressure with is really bad for you valves. doing what I'm doing isnt good for the motor bacsue of the very little back pressure(but its better than none). I hope it doesnt hurt anything.

The Millennium Falcon

Okay, so it wasn't a Z that I did it on, but it does sound like a jet engine starting up. I wasn't running straight off the turbo, but only about a 15" long downpipe or so. It set off a car alarm in my neighborhood as I drove by, so it is quite loud! Not as bad as straight headers, but not quiet either. And this was on a 1.3L Suzuki! To answer your question, it sounds cool as he**!

Turbo is definately cool

After my swap I had the stock mid pipe only that just emptied under the car where a cat should be. Definately loud, but the turbo does help to dampen the sound. I set of a car alarm also going thru the parking garage at school. It rumbles the floor. But with the exhaust wide open you hear the turbo spool very loud and you also hear it despool on decleration. One of the coolest sounds, period. Oh, just don't run an RX-7's rotary without exhaust. That was nuts... I had my exhaust apart one evening and decided to see what it sounds like, well I'm sure everyone within 1/2 mile radius heard too! Rotaries are just plain loud. Like a chainsaw thru a bull horn on max.

Re: Turbo is definately cool

I want a NA RX-7. When I get one I am going to do exactly what you said not to hehe. I've heard so many stories about what kind of sounds they make I gota hear it for my self. I'm addicted, hacking off the exhaust my car has ruined me. My dads '64 falcon with a I-6(170 or 200) and about 2 feet of exhaust doesnt sound any where near as cool as the Z, neither did my moms buick(2.8 v6) when we kiled its cat.

What other cars have cool exhaust notes?
