I have my ‘72 240 engine being overhauled as part of a total restoration. The shop has run into a snag. Despite removing all the head bolts, including some that snapped, they can’t get the head to separate from the block, despite considerable effort. We have to be careful not damage the head. Has anyone run into this situation before?

Where did the head bolts snap? Down at the threads, or up high near the head of the bolt?
If they snapped near the head of the bolt, the rest of the bolt(s) is probably oxidized (frozen) to the cylinder head.
