Ok here's my problem. My Blower is blowing fuses like crazy. At first it would last about a week and then it would blow but now it blows as soon as I turn it on. My car is a 1981 280ZX and it has been slightly rewired by the previous owner. The control that controls OFF-LOW-AUTO-HIGH-DEFROST etc. seems to have been bypassed in favor of a switch that sits beside the drivers legs on the side of the stereo console. When I hit the switch the fuse blows and the switch now sparks too. Could the switch be the culprit? Driving around with foggy windows and the windows rolled down is getting to be a pain so I've gotta get crackin on it.

Should I start by rewiring it back to the proper locations and remove the switch to see if that works or is there maybe another problem? Thanks.

It sounds as though your PO rigged this because his original switch / harness went bad and instead of finding the original replacement he concocted his own.

I would restore the ORIGINAL wiring and switch and discard the PO's doo-hickey thing. That might solve the problem once and for all.

Sounds more like the blower itself might be stuffed. However, I dont know much about blowers. The spark at the switch could be simply because you are switching a lot of current (sometimes you will see a spark at the powerpoint at home when you switch it). If you get lots of current, your fuse will blow.
Then again, as the others have mentioned, maybe your wiring is faulty. The wiring somewhere could be shorting to ground (the body of the car) and that will certainly blow your fuse.
Is it difficult to disconnect the blower at the blower itself? If you can, I would do this first. If it is faulty wiring, I would then expect the fuse to keep blowing. If it is a faulty blower, the fuse wont blow.

I hope this helps. Like I said, I have never played much with the blower.
