Hi,
What is the easiest way to upgrade from points to EI on a 240Z? Can I just take a distributor from a mid 80's Z and add a new coil?

I used a MSD box and a Mallory photocell distributor with a MSD coil. This set up was fairly easy, just a couple hours for an average joe. But I'm not sure if it's the easiest.
By the way I LOVE the electronic ignition on my 240 considering it wasn't burning all the fuel from my 4barrel.

I have been told that you can run a crane HI6 ignition with a 280 el distributer. Tweeks told me this, if you call, ask for Jeff caldwell

Crane XR-3000, only 4 wires to hook up. Takes 45 minutes to install. It sells for $110.

Does the Cran XR-3000 screw up your tach or does it work fine??? ok it took your 45min what do you have to do to hook it up Do you have to buy a different coil or what???

EASIEST:

Get a 1981 - 1983 280-ZX Distributor with it's ECM built right onto the side of it. Remove your distributor. Install the new one. Hook up the 2 wires to the + and - sides of the coil. If car will not start, reverse the 2 wires. Start car. Case closed.

I can attest to that, did the same with my 240 10 years ago. Two months ago I added a Crane HI-6, PS-91 Coil and a tach adaptor. Installed without a hitch, fired right up. Tech support at Crane was good, they explained exactly what to do. I put the HI-6 on the passenger kick-panel to avoid engine bay heat, extended the harness to the coil/distributor as needed. Lost the hesitation off the line, more power at high revs and I love the rev-limiter!

I have a 73 240z, automatic with dual points. Will the Crane HI-6 and PS-91 coil work on my car? If so, is there a phone number I can call to order?
