I'm starting to really like this forum now. I've been coming to it for about 2 years now, but it's really starting to take off. Last weekend I started the rear disc conversion on my z. I was going to use the discs off a 81 turbo that I already had, but I really don't like the way the fit. particularly the way the emergency brake linkage will have to be routed. I know the 82-83 brakes are different, but how? Are they better suited for the conversion? How many different styles of rear discs are there? I won't be able to take a trek to the junkyards to compare until the weekend, so I'd like to do a little research first. keep the advice coming.

In the IZCC they have an article about the conversion. It says that the '82 Turbo 280ZX rear caliper and the non-turbo rear rotor had a slightly larger diameter piston. ('79-'81) 280ZX rear caliper. The early 280ZX rear caliper was very bulky, had a smaller piston and pad area, and necessitated the use of a highly offset rotor (too much in fact for this conversion to work easily). Hope this helps
