Thought it was about time I popped up to the surface and showed my self :)

Ok guys, due to my lack of knowledge (as usual) I need a bit of help: I have 2 engines (stock l24's) that I intended to take apart and then build up one of them to go in my 240z, until I'm ready to start modifying the car later. Or at least I think they are both stock ...Both blocks have P30 stamped on them so I guess they are stock. My problem is the heads. One of the heads is an E88 (stamped on it),the one with large valves, the other has E30 stamped on it and has considerably smaller valves?....both engines have had about the same amount of usage, so rebuilding the engine that is least worn, isn't a factor. Can anybody point me in the right direction?.....please? I have heard of the E88 and the E31 heads but never heard of the E30 head?..anybody know of the E30 head? and what head would you guys choose to rebuild?
TIA

Wow, sounds like you have a head from a 2 liter motor (E30) (FairladyZ or Laurel) on your L24. Yes, it does have significantly smaller valves but a smaller chamber for high compression.
So, you could put the larger valves from the E88 into the E30 and you have high compression (how high I don't know at this point, but probably somewhere around 10:1) plus the larger valves. Better yet, the intake valve from a later N42 or N47 is larger then the E88 valve. Either way, use steel valve seats to accomodate the unleaded gas.

ENNO :Thanks for the info :), I was wondering if you know, how much work there is involved in putting the larger valves in? and can the engine take it?

anyway thanks

I would look for a machine shop that is familiar with the Nissan l-series engine and have them give you a quote to replace the valve seats against the larger steel ones. Like I said you can use valves out of a N42 or N47 head (280Z L28 engine) in case of your E30 head. Also goes for the E88 (but lower compression)
The engine should take it just fine since I have a friend that has a 240 with a L28 block and a E30 head. But, there is a web site that has a program called "L engine". It calcultes everything for you and is a super setup. Look for it here under "search". You might find it there.
Good luck!!!!
