I'm converting a 1972 240-Z Automatic into a 5-Speed. I believe the 5-Speed Transmission is out of a 280-Z.

I have 2 driveshafts available: One from a 1971 240-Z 4-Speed, and the other one currently in the 1972 240-Z Automatic. Will either one of these work, and if not, what will?

Thankyou to one and all for all your previous and future help!!!

Re: Driveshaft Question (Converting Auto Z to 5-Sp

I recently did a the same swap on my 73. I was told the automatic drive shaft would not work. So I went to the junk yard and bought a 4 speed drive shaft. It seems as though whoever says the automatic driveshaft wont work is smoking crack. It is the same exact length as the 4 speed one. Anyways the answer to your question is either one of your drive shafts will work.

Actually, a lot depends on the types of transmission and differential [and mounting] are in the car. I had no problem putting a 5sp trans. in my 72 automatic (boy do I miss that car). Try yours first before spending any money.
