I just bought an MSD Blaster 2 coil that comes with a ballast resister. The directions say to use the ballast for distributors with points. I know my '83 doesn't have points, but the guy at the shop told me that I need the ballast anyway. Is this true?

don't think it is, I'm running an msd blaster 2 with my msd 6a on my 240 and I've converted to a crane xr700 optical electronic trigger, and I've been running it for over a year without the ballast connected to anything. Don't believe everything the parts guy tells ya. They tried to tell me that running a multi electrode spark plug would burn a hole in my pistons (still have yet to figure out how it could) and it was the same plug (heat range etc) other than the multi electrode design.
