I test drove a digital dash I don't like it at all. The 300zx's digital dash is a much better design. I've heard of people having problems witht them and a few converting over to analog I'm not sure if that will work or not. Sam 75 280z, 81 280zxt.
I didn't like the digital dash. I could have gotten a 280zx with less mile for $200 dollars less and actually with less rust Last year. But with the digital dash it is hard to see you rpm since it is a bar graph. Bad nissan design.
Speaking of nissan design. How about the Maxima 2000.
Good or Bad?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I have an 83 no engine (formerly a n/a, very soon to be a turbo) that is loaded option-wise, including a digital dash. There are pros & cons in my view. I don't like the tach-totally sucks the BIG one. I have an aftermarket digital one I'm installing along with the new engine install. The other guages are fine for my purposes - daily, fun driver. I really like the look of the digital dash, but then I'm a "techy" kind of guy. I would like the better precision of the analog dash guages, but the dash makes the z less exciting to me to me somehow. Keep in mind that I use mine only as a daily driver. If I did autocross or real racing, etc., a different ball game.
I actually have an analog dash out of an 81 turbo I've been parting out. I was going to change them out, but then a client told me that he thought the dash was really cool. I realized that I thought so too. I do like the 300zx digital dash better, but then I'm not driving a 300zx.
The digital dash has a rectangular connection that is the equivalent of a round connection on the anlog dash, so doing a swap is a matter of changing out to the right connector mostly.
83 was the first year for digital dashes in Z's. Analog was standard item, Digital was part of an option group. I prefer the analog because the digital is not accurate above 3000 rpm. Each bar becomes more and more rpms the further up it goes. So I found a 79 analog dash with the 130 mph speedo and swapped it. I have the digital dash and don't like it all. Seems more suited to a luxury family car or something. The worst thing is the tach, cannot tell where you are at and it is not linear at all. Hope to change mine out someday. Right now I'm using a aftermarket tach in a gauge pod.
