Hi, I have been considering a rear end swap for my datsun 240z. I have two questions:

1)I have some sort of 5speed trans and i dont know how to identify it. This is part of the problem

2)I dont know what rear end to use with that transmission, I seem a little slow coming off the line. What im really looking for is a good 0-60 time. I am also considering autocrossing.

I saw someone was selling a 411 rear end, would this work well? my car is more around town driver (racer) than a cross country machine.

Any help would be greatly apreciated

I know some guys that autocross and spoke to them about 4.11 gears. They said that 4.11's will raise your rpm's about 2000 at 60mph. You can find 4.11's in Nissan 4*4 trucks I believe. But since you my have a different casing it might not work.

If you have a OD trans (5th is right above reverse) then I would recommend the 4.11 diff. If you have a DD (5th is right below 4th) I would not recommend the 4.11 diff.

I you go to a 4.11 I would use an 81 to 83 280zx 5 speed. I think the ratios are better and it has alot nicer 5th for cruising since it was designed for a 3.9. The ealier 5 speeds are designed for a 3.5 that would be a big jump to a 4.11.
