differential mount 1971 early or late type?

345 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  JGP249z
I'm upgrading my differential R180 in my 1971 240z to a R200 (3.9 ratio)
I got the half shafts and the M-bar for the switching. The problem is that the rear diff. mount is broken. I tried ordering one from mail order, but there are two types. an early type from 70 to 6-71 and a late type made 7-71 to 78. My serial # was no help cause it could be either. Does it make a difference which one I get or is the later type better since I am upgrading?Does anybody know???

along with the newer diff mount(71 to 78) get the newer style front diff cross bar. then you will have everything upgraded to the r200 set up
Just the kind of information I needed and from the right source. The mail order does not carry the front differential cross bar. Do you know the best source or do I go and hunt for it at a "pick and pull" wrecking yard.

There is one sitting at the pick n pull on Commercial St in San Jose right now. I just pulled the rear diff mount bar(mustache bar), and I left the nose mount bar there.

Thanks ray . I'll go and check out that front differential mount cross bar and it probably has the mount with it. If it's ok, I'll have both the bar and the mount.
