My 280z has been having a little trouble getting started lately. Instead of its usual steady 1100 rpm idle, it does a rough 500-700 rpms for a second and just dies. What's up with that? I can keep it from happening by stepping on the gas, but the engine seems to run rough like something isn't right. Any ideas?

Also, the amps in my car suck a lot of power and like to make the volt meter bounce. Does it matter, or should I get a big cap or something?

Thanks in advance, 360 Man

How much is the needle bouncing when your amps hit? I can see the needle move just from my turn signals on my 280ZX, I dunno how much your needle moves.
1100 rpm sounds kind of high to start with. Before you go tearing things apart trying to find what is wrong, make sure your idle screw isn't loose in its threads and slipped down when you let of the gas real quick one time, that happened to me in another car of mine. Anything more complicated than that is outside my current knowledge.

lets get it straight, you idle at 1100 rpm then turn on the tunes and the car
drops to 700 rpm then turn off the jams and the car goes back upto 1100rpm ?
If thats the case and you have some heavy watt action, I would check for good
ground connections first and alternator belt tightness. You might have to
purchase another alternator with more output.

I would check the air regulator that sits on the manifold.
